Workshop 6 – Jabuticaba Tree

$120.00

Jesus Brito – May 24 Sunday – 1:30pm – 5:30pm

The jabuticaba tree is a prized tropical bonsai species known for its smooth, mottled bark, fine branching, and ability to flower and fruit directly on the trunk (cauliflory). Even at Shohin size, it develops elegant movement and refined ramification. Its unique bark texture and miniature grape‑like fruit make it a standout specimen in small‑scale tropical displays, or equally impressive in larger compositions.

Description

Plinia califlora

USDA Zone Zones 9–11. Well suited to Central Florida; thrives outdoors year‑round with protection only during rare cold snaps.

Sun Requirements Prefers bright partial sun to full sun. Strong light encourages tighter internodes and denser foliage, essential for Shohin refinement.

Watering & Salt Tolerance High water needs; Jabuticaba prefers consistently moist soil and does not tolerate drying out. Low salt tolerance, so protect from direct coastal spray in Indialantic.

Fertilizer Responds well to regular feeding. Use a balanced fertilizer during active growth; supplement with organic fertilizers to support flowering and fruiting.

Repotting Repot every 2–3 years in late spring or early summer. Jaboticaba prefers a moisture‑retentive but well‑draining mix and tolerates moderate root pruning.
