Bonsai Societies of Florida: Club Participation

Club Participation

We invite clubs to partake in these activities, which support the bonsai community, assist with fundraising efforts, and foster a friendly competitive spirit at the convention. Submission deadlines for these activities are April 15th prior to the convention

Club Tree Presentation

Each club is encouraged to submit a tree to represent their club. These trees will be displayed in a club presentation area for viewing by convention participants. It is optional for the clubs to follow the convention’s main theme but doing so is encouraged to create a cohesive club display. Note that if many clubs participate, space may be limited.
Interested clubs should take the following steps to participate:

  • Select a composition that represents your club.
  • Decide if you want your tree to adhere to the convention’s main theme.
  • Prepare the tree for display, ensuring it is in optimal condition.
Contact Kathrin Harris at president.kh@bonsai-bsf.com to confirm your intent to participate. Please provide the name of your club, a brief description of the tree you plan to display (including species and size), and any relevant information about your tree selection process or its significance to your club.

Club Night

Club Night at the BSF Convention is an event where Florida bonsai clubs demonstrate their creativity and teamwork. Within a three-hour time frame, each club creates a bonsai composition, starting with raw materials and transforming them into displays ready for judging and auction. This annual Saturday night activity encourages competition among clubs, promotes collaboration, and concludes with an auction event. Clubs can only do light tree trimming and basic pot/slab preparation before the competition. All other tasks, including wiring, styling, repotting, mossing, and final composition, must be done within the time limit.

Prior to auction, finished projects will be judged by the headliners, with criteria including viability of tree(s) worked, design, execution (wiring, styling, overall composition), and creativity. Please email Kathrin Harris at president.kh@bonsai-bsf.com to confirm your intent to participate.
