Thank you to all who have recently signed up and participated in visiting artists tours scheduled by the Speakers’ Bureau.  As most of you know, the Speakers’ Bureau schedules visiting artist tours as a service to clubs and members.  This results in the availability of nationally and internationally known bonsai artists to local clubs and individuals at substantially reduced costs due to sharing of transportation costs among participants.

Owen  We are proud to present for our first Speakers Tour in January, 2014, an up and coming bonsai artist, Owen Reich.  We have tentatively scheduled touring dates of January 6 – 20, 2014.  He has a strong combination of horticultural knowledge and classical Japanese apprentice experience.  His initial appearances in Florida have drawn very positive reactions.  Be sure to check out the websites noted below to get more information about Owen.  His per session fee is $300, and he is willing to stay in a home or hotel.

If you are interested in signing up and participating in a BSF sponsored demonstration, workshop or private session, you will need to complete the artist request form that you will find on the BSF website (  You or your club must respond no later than September 30, 2013 on the website.  No email or written requests are accepted.  Incomplete artist request forms will not be processed.  If you are new to this program or if you have any questions, please contact the Speakers’ Bureau for clarification (

We will process all completed request forms immediately following the deadline and forward a tentative schedule to participants who will have seven (7) days to review and request schedule changes.  The final schedule will be developed as soon as possible thereafter and forwarded to participants.

Participating clubs and individuals are responsible for feeding and housing our visiting artists.  If you or your club has an artist for the entire day, you are responsible for meals.  If you have a split day between clubs or individuals, you are responsible for the appropriate meals.  If you or your club has the speaker for the last session of the day, you are responsible for home accommodations or hotel costs.  Our visiting artists are our guests, so please treat them appropriately, providing them with some private down time during their busy schedule.

Remember when transferring our visiting artists from one location to the next, volunteers must be willing to meet the next participant halfway between events to deliver/pick up the artist.  Confirm with your contacts details about time, date and location of transfer.  Be sure to include complete information on your visiting artist request form for your travel contacts (name, address, home and cell phone, email address).

Payment should be made to the visiting artist by check at the end of the session.  An invoice covering your share of the visiting artist’s transportation costs will be sent to you by the BSF Treasurer.
