The Living Art Of Bonsai, Exhibit And Classes Date: Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 1:18p.m.

The Marion Bonsai Society (MBS) is pleased to announce the second annual "The Living Art of Bonsai" Exhibit and classes to be held on March 24-28 at the On Top Of the World Master the Possibilities Education Center, 8415 SW 80th Street, Ocala, FL 34481. MBS is offering this exhibit and classes in conjunction with On Top of the World and its Master the Possibilities Education Center.

Directions from I-75:
  • Exit at SR200 exit 350
  • Proceed 6 miles SW on SR200
  • Turn right on SW 80th Ave
  • 1.5 miles N to SW 80th St.
  • Left on SW 80th St
  • About 2 blocks...watch for Yalala Bakery on right
  • Exhibit and classes are right beside the bakery. Plenty of parking behind the buildings

The bonsai exhibit is from 9a.m. to 4p.m. weekdays, and 9a.m. to noon on Saturday.

The classes:
  1. The Basics- Artist Peter Wood presents "BonsaiBasics"- basic horticultural and artistic principles...for the person with little or no bonsai knowledge wanting to know "just how does that tree grow in that pot". The class presents bonsai history and the arts unique basics for styling and applications of soils, watering and fertilizing. This class is free and will be held twice during the exhibit, Wednesday March 25, 1-2p.m., and Friday, March 27, 10 to 11a.m.
  2. The Demonstration - Creation of a Bonsai from a Training Pot. This demonstration is free, and will include the concept of the life stages of a bonsai. The presenter is artist David Van Buskirk, owner of D&L Nursery. The demonstration will be held Thursday March 26, from 1 - 2:30p.m.
  3. The Workshop - Artist Barbara Chapman will instruct and assist a maximum of 10 students in creating a Chinese style (penjing) landscape. This class is for you if you have no bonsai experience, or are a novice, or just want to take home a unique creation. All materials will be provided to allow you to take home a 3 ficus (nerifolia) tree penjing "land and water" style forest on a tray.

Barbara's imagination will help you create a scene comprising trees and rock and the illusion of water. You will be proud of the end result and enjoy years of beauty watching this creation grow and mature. This class will be held Friday March 27, from 1 to 3:30p.m. Price $52.
