BSF Junior Scholarship: A Proposal

by Glenn Partelow, 2008-01-12

The BSF Junior Scholarship will be open to people between the ages of twelve and twenty one. Applicants will submit interest through an essay, a show of competence in horticulture, or a display of artistic talent related to horticulture. One applicant will be chosen by the Board and would receive a stipend of $100 per day, (to be applied for food and travel) to work with a local Florida Bonsai Master for two days. Jim Smith and Jim Van Landingham will work the recipient on the east coast of Florida, while the west coast will be at the nursery of Eric Wigert. The student will be able to choose which area to attend.

Each club may nominate one person for the scholarship. Further, each local club should contact their local school system or civic group and present them with the criteria. Each club will notify the Education Chair of their selection no later than end of November of that year. Selection will take place at the December board meeting.
